The Story of Xpress Chems
How a small team of scientists and logistics specialists built one of Europe's most trusted research chemical supply networks — and why quality, transparency, and speed remain at the center of everything we do.
Company History
Xpress Chems was founded in the Netherlands in 2019 by a small group of analytical chemists and supply chain professionals who shared a common frustration: the research chemical market was fragmented, opaque, and slow. Laboratories waited weeks for shipments that arrived with incomplete documentation. Researchers struggled to verify the identity and purity of the materials they received. The entire procurement process — from ordering to delivery — felt like an afterthought.
Our founders came from backgrounds in pharmaceutical quality control, academic research, and international logistics. They had seen firsthand how inconsistent supply chains could delay critical experiments, compromise data integrity, and erode trust between suppliers and the scientific community. They believed there was a better way — one built on transparency, speed, and rigorous quality standards.
The company began operations from a single facility in the Netherlands, serving a handful of university laboratories and independent researchers across Western Europe. In those early months, every order was personally reviewed by a chemist. Every batch was independently tested before it left the building. Every customer received a direct line to someone who understood their research needs — not a generic support ticket, but a real conversation with a scientist.
Word spread quickly. Within eighteen months, Xpress Chems had outgrown its original facility and moved into a larger, purpose-built operations center with dedicated laboratory space, temperature-controlled storage, and a growing team of quality control specialists. By 2021, the company was shipping to researchers in over thirty countries across Europe, North America, and Asia-Pacific.
The most significant milestone came in 2022 with the opening of our North American fulfillment center in the United States. This strategic expansion addressed one of the most persistent pain points for our international customers: customs delays. By maintaining inventory on both continents, we could now offer domestic delivery times to researchers in the United States and Canada while preserving the same quality standards that defined our European operations.
Today, Xpress Chems serves a global community of researchers — from university laboratories and biotechnology startups to government research institutions and independent scientists. We remain privately owned and operated, which means every decision we make is driven by scientific integrity, not shareholder expectations. Our growth has been organic, built on the trust of the researchers who rely on us, and we intend to keep it that way.
Scientific Mission
At Xpress Chems, our mission is straightforward: to provide researchers with dependable access to high-quality research chemicals supported by transparent analytical documentation, efficient logistics, and responsive customer service.
We believe that scientific progress depends on reliable tools. When a researcher orders a reference standard, a synthetic intermediate, or an analytical reagent, they are placing trust in the supplier. That trust must be earned — and re-earned — with every single shipment. There are no shortcuts in this business, and we don't look for them.
Our mission extends beyond simply delivering products. We aim to be a genuine partner to the research community. This means being available to answer technical questions, providing documentation that stands up to peer review, and maintaining supply chains that laboratories can depend on — even when global logistics become unpredictable.
We also recognize a broader responsibility. The materials we supply are intended for legitimate scientific research and laboratory use only. We take our compliance obligations seriously, and we expect the same from every customer we serve. Our Research Use Policy is clear, publicly available, and strictly enforced. We believe that responsible supply is not just a legal requirement — it is a moral one.
Quality Philosophy
Quality at Xpress Chems is not a department — it is a mindset that runs through every function in the company. From the moment we evaluate a potential supplier to the moment a package arrives at a researcher's laboratory, quality considerations shape every decision we make.
Our quality philosophy rests on four core pillars:
1. Independent Verification. We do not rely on supplier-provided documentation alone. Every batch that enters our inventory undergoes independent analytical assessment. Identity verification and purity analysis are performed using validated methods, and results are documented in batch-specific records. We believe that third-party testing should be the industry standard — not an optional extra.
2. Full Traceability. Every product we ship can be traced back to its origin through our batch-controlled inventory system. Lot numbers, receipt dates, testing results, and storage conditions are recorded and maintained. This traceability is essential for researchers who need to document their materials for publication, regulatory submission, or internal quality audits.
3. Continuous Improvement. Our quality systems are not static. We regularly review our procedures, incorporate feedback from the research community, and update our protocols to reflect evolving best practices. When something can be improved, we improve it — not because a regulation requires it, but because our customers deserve it.
4. Transparency Without Compromise. We provide Certificates of Analysis where applicable, and our team is always available to discuss analytical results with researchers who have questions. We believe that hiding behind vague claims of "high purity" is not acceptable when real science is at stake.
Certificates of Analysis
Batch-specific Certificates of Analysis are available for our products and are issued following documented quality procedures including identity verification, purity assessment, and visual inspection. We encourage researchers to request CoA documentation for their records.
Warehouse Process
Behind every successful shipment is a warehouse operation that takes precision seriously. Our facilities in the Netherlands and the United States are designed specifically for the storage and handling of research chemicals — not repurposed from general logistics, but purpose-built for scientific materials.
Receiving & Inspection. When a shipment arrives from one of our verified suppliers, it does not go directly to inventory. First, it passes through our receiving inspection protocol. Our team verifies the shipping documentation against the purchase order, checks packaging integrity, and performs a visual inspection of the materials. Any discrepancies are flagged and resolved before the batch is accepted.
Quarantine & Testing. Accepted materials are placed in a quarantine zone pending analytical assessment. Only after testing is complete and results are reviewed does the batch move to available inventory. This separation between quarantined and released stock is a critical control point that prevents untested materials from ever reaching a customer.
Storage Conditions. Different compounds require different storage environments. We maintain temperature-controlled storage areas, with monitoring systems that track conditions continuously. Materials that require refrigeration or cold storage are kept in dedicated units. Our FIFO (First In, First Out) inventory management ensures that stock rotates properly, and older batches are used before newer ones.
Order Fulfillment. When an order is placed, our system checks real-time inventory levels and allocates stock from the appropriate batch. Orders placed before our 2:00 PM CET cut-off time are typically prepared and dispatched the same business day, subject to payment verification. Our team carefully packages each order according to the specific requirements of the materials involved — moisture-resistant inner packaging, tamper-evident seals, and secure secondary containment where needed.

Research Support
One of the things that sets Xpress Chems apart is our commitment to genuine, knowledgeable customer support. When a researcher contacts us with a question, they are connected with someone who understands the scientific context of their inquiry — not a generic call center representative reading from a script.
Our support team includes individuals with backgrounds in chemistry and laboratory research. They understand questions about solubility, storage conditions, analytical methods, and documentation requirements because they have worked with these materials themselves. This expertise allows us to provide meaningful assistance that goes beyond basic order tracking.
We are available Monday through Saturday, from 08:00 to 18:00 Central European Time. Researchers can reach us via email or live chat, and we prioritize responsive, helpful communication. Whether you need a Certificate of Analysis for your records, guidance on product selection, or assistance with an order, our team is ready to help.
We also support the research community through institutional partnerships. Universities, government laboratories, and accredited research institutions can establish accounts with streamlined ordering, consolidated billing, and dedicated support contacts. We understand the procurement requirements of large institutions, and we work to make the process as smooth as possible.
Quality Control
Our quality control procedures are designed to ensure that every product we ship meets the standards that researchers expect. While we do not operate a public testing service, we maintain rigorous internal QC protocols that govern every stage of our operations.
Identity Verification. Before any material enters our available inventory, we confirm its identity using validated analytical techniques. This step ensures that what we received is what we ordered — a fundamental requirement that should never be taken for granted.
Purity Assessment. We assess the purity of each batch and document the results. Where applicable, we issue Certificates of Analysis that researchers can reference in their own work. These documents provide transparency and support the reproducibility of scientific experiments.
Visual Inspection. Every batch undergoes visual inspection as part of our quality procedures. While visual inspection alone cannot determine purity, it serves as an important screening step and is conducted alongside analytical testing.
Packaging Inspection. Before any order leaves our facility, the packaging is inspected to ensure it is appropriate for the materials involved. Tamper-evident seals, moisture-resistant barriers, and secure containment are verified as part of our dispatch process.
Retention Samples. We maintain retention samples from each batch for a defined period. This practice supports traceability and allows for re-examination if any quality questions arise after a product has been shipped.
Packaging Standards
Packaging is one of the most underappreciated aspects of chemical supply — and one of the most important. A product can be of the highest purity, but if it arrives damaged, contaminated, or compromised by improper packaging, it is useless to the researcher who ordered it.
Our packaging policy is built around three objectives: protection, discretion, and compliance.
Protection. We use moisture-resistant inner packaging where appropriate, tamper-evident seals on all product containers, and secure secondary containment for sensitive materials. Temperature-sensitive products are shipped with appropriate thermal management to maintain stability during transit.
Discretion. All orders are shipped in plain external packaging. Chemical names do not appear on outer labels beyond what is required for transport documentation. We respect the privacy of our customers and the sensitive nature of research procurement.
Compliance. Our packaging meets applicable transport regulations for the materials we ship. Commercial invoices and customs documentation are prepared accurately and in accordance with shipping requirements. Batch labeling is included on internal packaging to maintain traceability from our warehouse to the researcher's laboratory.
